On Exhibit: Palatine Library, Palatine, IL, for the months of April and May 2025

"We are in the sea-surge of the soul, along with many others to be sure, but needing to swim under our own power." -James Hollis

Exhibit Statement: “Deep Dive” features a self-curated collection of nine (9) artworks. This exhibit includes six (6) hand-cut paper collages and three (3) hard-edge geometric paintings. In Jungian psychology, water is often seen as a personal and collective symbol for the unconscious. Through the use of color, composition, and line in my collages and paintings, this body of work explores the symbolic meaning of water, and the wave-like emotional states that we feel as human beings.

Walk me to the water. My cupped hands are open to receive. As an artist, when I fully submerge into the metaphorical deep waters of my art process, I float in the flow-like state of creative fluidity. I allow myself to sink, like an anchor, into the totality of my existence. When I swim against the current (and away from watered-down ideals) I ride the surging waves of my inner knowing into uncharted waters.

I can choose to become the ripple effect. Feelings will be pulled to the shore of my mind yet I draw no shallow line in the sand. My mind will drift in rhythmic waves. Forgotten dreams will wash over me. The waters run deep. The tide will reach back out to me. Calling my eyes out to see.
